Pelleve

June 10th, 2010

New Youth Medical Spa is pleased to announce our newest treatment system for treatment of wrinkles called the Pelleve.

What is the Pelleve and what does it do?

The Pelleve is the newest innovation in non-surgical skin tightening, providing visible, lasting results. It is FDA approved for treatment of mild to moderate facial wrinkles without surgery. It is designed to tighten skin by heating the tissue with a radio wave frequency. There are several machines with similar goals.  The difference is that the Pelleve targets the subdermal junction which stimulates production of collagen and tightens the collagen in the epidermis and dermis using radio waves to create energy in the form of electromagnetic waves. Many of the other machines use a laser wave, which is uncomfortable and often painful, requiring sedation. Also results of the Pelleve treatment are immediate.  Generally three treatments are necessary for optimal results at 3 to 6 week intervals although one treatment can improve skin tightness and create a naturally refreshed appearance. There is no recovery, although some mild redness may be temporarily present along with very mild swelling. This is truly a lunch-time lift and patients love it. As with all equipment, results are not guaranteed.

Areas most often treated are the face and neck, including the eyelids, but any loose skin can be treated.

How does the Pelleve feel?

Warm to hot, but not to the point of discomfort. It usually takes about 45 minutes for the treatment and is done in the New Youth Medical Spa.

  • Technical summary:
  • Radio frequency surgical equipment emits energy in the form of electromagnetic waves, which are absorbed by the surrounding tissue, creating a heated treatment zone
  • Increased resistance causes heat buildup at the subdermal junction
  • Heat induces collagen denaturization, followed by collagen contraction
  • Collagen breaks down
  • Protein stimulation causes new collagen formation and production in the dermis
  • Existing bands of collagen tighten in subcutaneous fat
  • Remodeling of collagen occurs in dermis and subcutaneous fat, creating a superficial tightening of the epidermis
